Monterey is nice, home of world renowned Monterey Jazz Festival, but there was note of sadness for me. While passing through I decided to look up my Sifu, Charles Blodgett, with whom I trained for some years until he moved away. Lately, I've considered finding a new school and thought it would be wonderful to see him again, to seek his advice and to catch up; it's been years. He had a school in Portland Oregon called Breathing Lotus and taught a form of Kung-Fu called Mo Duk Pai. He was a high belt in several forms, a respected Toaist and the reason I trained. After he moved to Monterey I stopped training as for me there was no replacement. When I googled him I found him right away, and learned that he died six years ago. He wasn't even 50 years old. I'm inspired anew to complete my black belt.
